Spiritual Exercises Audiobook Free: A Scholar’s Contemplative Journey – Free Download

These are the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a plan of contemplation to be carried out over about a month. St. Ignatius of Loyola (1419-1556) was the founder of the Jesuits, and was canonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622. He published the Spiritual Exercises in 1548. The Exercises were intended for use by someone who would be conducting a retreat and are a series of notes on methods and things to cover. As such they read more like a manual and overview than a devotional book that one can look to for edification. They presume the person conducting the retreat or the exercises has already been through them. They are a central part of the first year training of Jesuit novitiates. However, one does not have to be a Jesuit-in-training to take advantage of the Exercises: Increasingly, lay people and even non-Catholics follow this path (1491 – 1556)( from the introduction and reader)

Case for Christ: A Journalist’s Personal Investigation of the Evidence for Jesus Audiobook: A Scholarly Examination of Faith and Evidence – Free Download

Is there credible proof that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God? In The Case for Christ,Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune and New York Times bestselling author, retraces his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith and builds a captivating case for Christ’s divinity.

In this revised and updated edition of The Case for Christ, Strobel cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools such as Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis, asking hard-hitting questions–and taking a deeper look at the evidence from the fields of science, philosophy, and history.

In his comprehensive investigation, Strobel doesn’t shy away from challenging questions, including:

– How reliable is the New Testament?
– Does evidence for Jesus exist outside the Bible?
– Is Jesus who he said he was?
– Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event?
– What does all of the evidence point to–and what does it mean today?

Winner of the Gold Medallion Book Award and twice nominated for the Christian Book of the Year Award, The Case for Christ has been adapted into a major motion picture and has now sold over 5 million copies worldwide.

This edition includes scores of revisions and additions, including updated material on archaeological and manuscript discoveries, fresh recommendations for further study, and an interview with the author that tells dramatic stories about the book’s impact, provides behind-the-scenes information, and responds to critiques of the book by skeptics.

Strobel’s thorough examination reads like a captivating, fast-paced novel. But it’s not fiction: it’s a riveting quest for the truth about history’s most compelling figure. Discover The Case for Christ today.

Praise for The Case for Christ:

‘Nobody knows how to sift truth from fiction like an experienced investigative reporter, or to argue a case like someone trained at Yale Law School. Lee Strobel brings both qualifications to this remarkable book. In addition to his own tremendous testimony as atheist-turned-Christian, the author marshals the irrefutable depositions of recognized ‘expert witnesses’ to build his ironclad case for Jesus Christ. The Case for Christ sets a new standard among existing contemporary apologetics.’

Heavenly Footman: A fast-paced and direct challenge to every Christian Audiobook Free: Puritan Allegory Reexamined – Free Download

The Heavenly Footman is a fast-paced and direct challenge to every Christian to “run the race to win”! Footman is no reference to an infantryman or an aristocrat’s servant, but refers to those who are travelling on foot to a distant country, engaged in a pilgrimage from earth to heaven. John Bunyan uses the allegory of the runner to picture the Christian’s race through this world to win the heavenly prize. Indeed, they that will have heaven must run for it. “They which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize…so run, that ye may obtain” (1Co 9:24). He understands that most are too casual in their approach to the Christian life. Their vigilance looks more like sloth too much of the time! Instead, Bunyan encourages us to “press toward the mark,” to “continue in the faith” in spite of all adversity, to remove hindrances, to beware of by-paths, to know the cross and mortification, to deny self, and to persevere. While this race is mentioned in most works on holiness, Bunyan’s focus is on the personal vigilance needed to complete the race, starting now, starting today.
